Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party
Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these five characters are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the narrative’s action—used the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the party reach places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.
