Followers Urge Custody of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the pop star are demanding that a individual who leaped a barrier and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the Australian man shoving aside media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the cast walked down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the surprised performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though official papers revealed that he was set to be present on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
History of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram profile includes clips of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the area last year.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is obviously a legal violation," commented an Instagram commenter, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" another Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Several fans blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had revealed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also faulted event staff at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while different individuals requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In clips spreading on the internet, Grande appeared surprised when she was grabbed by the individual. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Many of supporters had assembled in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international launch in a Singapore venue, including several who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The motion picture, to be premiered on November 21, is the sequel of a dual adaptation of the popular stage musical Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected friendship between two very different characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the villainous character, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the most successful film of 2024 in the UK, and received ten Oscar nominations, winning two for best costume and production design.
