The Latest Relaxed Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several notable changes:

  • Each team has only 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by human gamers grant complete experience points, while AI activities offer reduced XP.
  • Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for gamers seeking different methods to have fun with the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your rivals," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player notes, "I have no idea where we are headed with this title," while someone else details all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this title 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback

Despite the support, there are valid points to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist seems like the community meeting them halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user describes this mode as the developers "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
